Tableaux and exhibit design- The Little Red Riding Hood

The Little Red Riding Hood is a widely known and loved Grimm's fairy tale. It was one of the first fairy tales that my mother read to me, ending with a note of caution against devious strangers.

A Freudian analysis of the story hints at an Electra complex being addressed given how the only two male characters in the story are the wolf and hunter - synonyms for a father figure who is either a sexual predator or a messiah. Tracing the roots of the story takes us to 'le petit chaperon rouge' which bears obvious sexual innuendos turning it into a moral tale for sexually promiscuous girls warning against charming 'wolves'.

This tableaux is based on a 1999 poem by Carol Ann Duffy 'The Little Red Cap'.
A richly autobiographical poem about a young girl being seduced by a dangerous
yet captivating poet/wolf who is killed by Red Riding Hood herself to avenge her grandmother who was killed and eaten by the wolf. She revels in the sexual/literary freedom that arises henceforth.

The glass bowl acts as a transparent skull through which one can peak into the psyche of the Little Red Riding Hood. To do so, one has to perform the vulgar act of uncloaking her. The forest is a metaphor for her psyche and it is there that the wolf and her
Another tableux made on the same theme based on a Freudian analysis of the Grimm's tale of the Little Red Riding Hood. The wine bottle, being a phallic object essentially, symbolises the prospective of losing one's virginity through a violent act of penetration. In this live tableaux, the red wine drips down the white garbs of the young girl.  White here symbolises innocence and purity. The gradual tinging of the red pigment symbolises one's  transition into womanhood by either menstruation or sexual activity - both often times marked by blood,
An 3 meter tall interactive exhibit was made on the same theme, wherein one would willfully enter the wolf's body clothed as the grandmother. Upon entering, a noose hangs loose that one has to dodge in order to be surrounded by the guts of the wolf - textile manipulation. One steps on the pebbles that were filled in the wolf's gut in order to kill it. An audio of Caroline's Little Red Cap plays in the background when one finally finds the bloody hip-bones of their grandmother. Guilt is the intended emotion to be experienced.
