Western Colorado University Partners with CU Boulder

Serving as president of Western Colorado University since 2014, Greg Salsbury has successfully increased campus enrollment, retention rates, and diversity. An initiative that Greg Salsbury spearheaded involved securing a historic $80 million donation toward the Paul M. Rady School of Computer Science and Engineering.

The one-time gift was made by Western alumnus Paul Rady, who serves as CEO and chairman of the Colorado companies Antero Midstream and Antero Resources. One positive outgrowth of this donation was a partnership forged between Colorado University (CU) Boulder and Western Colorado University. This enables undergraduate students to earn their bachelor of science in mechanical engineering or computer science from CU Boulder while studying at Western’s Gunnison campus.

The partnership was described by the dean of CU Boulder’s College of Engineering and Applied Science as one that would boost economic competitiveness statewide in vital high-tech industries. At the same time, it expands CU Boulder’s presence throughout the Western Slope region. For his part, Mr. Salsbury described Mr. Rady’s “generous investment” as providing a transformative opportunity in his institution’s history, as traditional strengths are paired with leading-edge technical education.
