Event Calendar: finding events at the right time

Challenge
"Your challenge today is to design a mobile app for finding local events! Focus on the calendar view, allowing your users to hover over a date and receive event details."

Selected design/experience considerations
When would a calendar best help people who are searching for events?
A calendar view can help users find events by date. However, that shouldn't necessarily imply that users will seek out events primarily based on when they happen.

For most users, it makes more sense to find events based on general queries, such as  the type of activity/interest (specified in the search query), location, and/or cost of the event. The calendar, therefore, appears after a query has been entered, and serves a way to filter down results by time.

Additionally, a calendar grid might be obstructive when navigating a list of events, so I 1) included an option to switch to a list view and 2) made the calendar collapse into a fixed week when scrolling down.
