Key and Lock Collection

Key Collection
For our first project we were tasked with the idea of collecting multiples of one object. My first idea was to collect bracelets (my own, friends, strangers, etc.), although I found this concept difficult being all bracelets are so wildly different. I eventually chose to collect keys being the idea was more interesting to myself. Keys are a vital part of today’s society, they are used to keep valuables, secrets, and many other things safe and out of reach from others. A key can unlock anything, whether it's a safe, a home, or even a simple diary. To many including myself, keys can be mysterious and can trigger the mind to think of all the possible secrets or expensive items a singular key can unleash. I find this thought very intriguing and something I would like to explore more within this project. Another concept about keys I find compelling is the difference but extreme similarity between all keys. Every one of the keys I photographed appears the same, except for the small ridges and increments along the bottom or the detailing and wording on the top of the key. It's so fascinating knowing that these miniscule differences determine if a key can start a car or unlock a student's locker.
