The Human Brain Project

Neurorobotics Sub-Project Workshop

The Human Brain Project organises conferences throughout the year, spreading the knowledge through renowned scientists from their respective fields, presenting their work and carrying out lively discussions about the future and possibilities of neuroscience.

This particular conference was focused on exploring the feasibility of a brain in a vat‘, one disconnected from the world, except for outputs that enable external monitoring or inputs such as electrical simulation. The Neurorobotics Sub-Project of The Human Brain project attempts to provide robotic bodies for simulated brains.

This workshop brought together experts from within and outside the project to discuss the relationship between brain and body from the point of view of philosophy, neuroscience, computer science, engineering and robotics. Held in Barcelona, Spain on March 8, 2018 – March 9, 2018.

The design celebrates the conference like it was a music festival. Bright colours, bold typography, clear signages and maps give the event visual weight and coherence.

I developed an engaging yet simple visual system for the conference. The vibrant illustration set the precedent for the colour palette and graphic elements that could be used across various physical and digital materials such as posters, identity tags, flyers, maps, e-invites and certificates. There is a good balance of concept, aesthetic interest and a clarity of communication.
