Top Picks:  Favorites From Square
Squaresoft, or Square-Enix as it is called these days, has always been one of the favorite game developers out there.  Though many of the newer titles have fallen short of the quality of its classic games, fans still remain faithful to its spirit.

As a fond way of looking back, I’ve listed some of the favorite games from Square.
Final Fantasy VI

When Square released FFVI on the Super Famicom (FFIII in the United States’ Super NES), it was hailed as the greatest RPG ever on a 16-bit system.  As with its predecessors, the story was top-notch, and the world, beautifully created.  But FFVI had something different – it had a cast that people related to and stuck with until the very end.

Final Fantasy VII

FFVII was the game that revolutionized RPG gaming.  It was Square’s first release on the new Sony PlayStation, and the CD-ROM format allowed Square to reach previously unreachable heights in game development.  A full 3D world to explore on three massive discs meant the size and scope of the game was just unparalleled.  Many experts claim FFVII is the peak of Square’s creativity.

Kingdom Hearts
When KH first came out, admittedly, fans were skeptical.  Disney and Square?  That didn’t sound right.  But when I got into the groove of things, what seemed at first like a kid’s game quickly because one of the most charming, geekish games I have ever played.  And KH2 took things up a notch.  This is the stuff that dreams are made of.
