There's Something Strange About Plymouth
Plymouth 2011
There's Something Strange about Plymouth series was based on my desire to experience, as a photographer, the issue of adventure, analysed by Roland Barthes in his La Chambre Claire, though I chose the image creator’s point of view. The situations I describe exerted a strong attraction on me. Carrying the camera, I launched into walking, like a flâneur, many streets and public buildings, observing every kind of situation that could arouse curiosity on me.
I composed the photographs with different marginalized people from the city in several places and situations, like the Union Street, the market in the city centre, the Students’ Union, the Armada Way at night, some social housing projects in Stoke and a very good looking house in the Barbican area next to the river. It was a long term work of observation in parallel with quickly decision-making in order not to let the situations go away.
