Re-Architecting the Human Brain Project's web presence

With colleagues at Blueliner, we teamed up with creatives at Chowder to help the European Union's Human Brain Project, their largest Research and Innovation programme to date, re-conceive the fundamental inforation achitecture of their site. The project of re-architecting their site, which was what I in particular was called-in to do, didn't progress very far before it closed.

Reading about the massive conference(s) they held a few months later I surmised that probably demanded and was more worthy of their attention than a web site redesign.

The site has changed since I mapped it last year, but the first image below presents the "as-is" sitemap of June 2014.
The next image maps out the relationships between the three main platforms (or "Futures"), Future Neuroscience, Future Medicine and Future Computing, with the six major platforms overlaying the platforms according to their immediate relevance to that/those Platform(s):  Neurorobotics, Brain Simulation, Neuroinformatics, Medical Informatics, Neuromorphic Computing and High Performance Computing.
The orange arrows highlight additional relationships between the platforms; some are mutual.
Finally, the Sub-Projects are mapped across the Platforms and Futures. As you will see the relationships among the Sub-Projects often belong to multiple Futures and have direct connections to other Sub-Projects on other Platforms and/or Futures. Note also that a few Sub-Projects lay outside the Platforms altogether, like those addressing ethics and administrative issues.
You don't have to read their Vision Document to understand that what the Human Brain Project aspires to do, truly -- stay with me now -- blows the mind!
