PROJECT: Live_Work Studio
TIME: 2.5 weeks, Spring 2015; updated Dec. 2015
SIZE: 800 square feet
GOAL: Given the small size and scale, the project was to design a live/work studio in a remote area using masonry and stone construction. This combination of client, climate, and construction allowed for distinctive elements and passive strategies to be incorporated into the project.
DESIGN: To create a living working studio for a glass fabricator under 800 square feet in an isolated environment. The glassblower will live and work in his facility year-round. Located in Nova Scotia, Canada, the glassblower will be isolated from surrounding architecture and be set in the natural environment. Constructed entirely out concrete and masonry, the cabin is formed around the idea of burrowing into Earth. This functions on a combination of the events of the client, climate, and construction types to form a symbiotic relationship.
AWARDS: Featured in the second edition of Philadelphia Univeristy's architectural publication, SPACEWORK
