Brief: Imagine a collaboration between an artist and an existing brand. The product must be a drink in a can.
For this collab, I chose to pair Missy Elliott (who has been very vocal regarding her crippling anxiety) and Recess, a wellness drink brand known for their CBD drinks that promote calm and relaxation.
The main colour is pink and I wanted it from the beginning. Why pink you may ask?
Because I hate it. I hate this colour from the bottom of my heart. And I hate the girly association that comes with it.
So I wanted to create a challenge for myself. Working with something I dislike. Because in graphic design, it doesn't matter what you think and what you like.
Only the MESSAGE you want to deliver IS KING.
Fortunately for me, both Missy and Recess have used the colour pink in their communication. So that was a second connection I was able to make between both.
I chose a retro-futurist look with grain, gradient and futuristic geometric shapes for the label to echo the fashion style Missy Elliott wears in most of her music videos. And created a black futurist 3D glass (in Adobe Dimension) to represent the iconic black lipstick she used for her song "I'm Better" featuring with Lamb.
I went the extra mile for the exercise by inventing a brand-new beverage taste that is in line with what Recess would have done. I started from a recipe I had already created for a dessert and changed the variety of the ingredients so that their colour would match the colour palette of the project.
It's a WFT (What the fusion) taste out of this world made with rare fruits and herbs like:
- White mango from Bali
- Pink finger lime from Australia and
- Glacial mint from Provence (a region in the south of France).
There are also lime, coconut and ginger inside. I think I should try to make a mocktail or smoothie out of this new recipe, shouldn't I?
