Years ago I was hired by a friend who owned and operated his own wireless company to design and build his business as web site. Using approximately 40 images from the public domain, I created a background image to evoke the many places, purposes and people who need wireless services. View a low-res version of the result below. 
 
If you view careully, the shades and hues are meant to guide the eye from one level of action to another, to another, all using the x, y and z axes.
The following image is a screenshot of one of the pages I designed for the site. It is right-aligned in the image below but, on my monitor, it was centered on the screen. The right-side edge, a light blue, has been cropped for legibility. 
As I'm wont to do, I relied heavily on linked cascading style sheets to present and layout all block and inline elements.
