When selecting pieces of work for my portfolio, I knew I had to include this from ART 102: Color Theory. For the Masters of Interpretation assignment, we were instructed to create a new design based off of a famous piece of artwork by using the same color palette. The numerous values and hues in Franz Marc's Blue Horse painting caught my eye immediately. I wanted to contrast Marc's work by creating an abstract piece, but was inspired by the circular, free flowing brush strokes. I also noticed the original work was a fairly saturated piece, which influenced me to focus more on the muted values. Throughout the creation of this design, I was able to experiment with color relations by the placement and overlapping of elements within the composition. By combining my passion for abstract with the inspiration acquired from Blue Horse, I was able to actively create a piece I'm proud to call my own.
