Wildcard- Communication Design Portfolio

For my wildcard, I chose a set of a personnel series I worked on last semester. I wanted to practice illustration. More specifically, I wanted to create fictional landscapes. I was not in the best headspace at the time, and I wanted to create pieces of imagery to represent my highs and lows. When I was at my lowest, I would imagine I traveled to “My Hell”. A infernal landscape filled with suffering and burning. When I was at peace, I would travel to “My Heaven”, a peaceful air balloon ride over a calm and relaxing sunset. It was nice to imagine when I needed something happy to think about.

These are some of my favorite pieces. Both use a more radial design to draw the viewers eyes across each piece. By using repetition with the swirling motifs, having a constant typeface, consistent beams of light, and varying line weights helped build the connection between the two pieces. I wanted people to feel this connection immediately, just by looking at them.
