This is a study of textures created in nature, juxtaposed on textures created by man. These observations are extremely valuable when considering textures and layouts to consider in UI and UX design. The textures we see around us are encoded with meanings that can be transferred into software and hardware in order to communicate messages to the user. Although popular in skeuomorphism, these same texture metaphors can be abstracted through flat design, i.e., the frosted glass texture in Apple's iOS7.
