The Colorado National Monument is located just south of Fruita, Colorado.  It's main feature is Independence rock.  It's located just across from the visitor's center.  This monolith is 450 feet tall and was created by the soft sandstone eroding away over time.  Hundreds of thousands of years ago, Independence Rock used to be attached to the canyon wall just north of it.
