Big Thanks to the incredibly beautiful community of Eastside Park. Hopefully this video gives a little transmission of the depth of heart within the People there.  #ThatRealGold
WISDOM UNITED MURAL DESIGN:
We came up with a design that fused Indigenous and Afro inspired patterns. Shout out to Sandra Hernandez of the Kitanemuk Tribe for downloading me on oral history of the Antelope Valley area and sharing imagery from her personal lineage archives. When we started meeting the community in the park, and seeing all of the young men walking though and hanging out everyday, we knew we had to include someone in the design to inspire them. We decided to go with a young Muhammad Ali (aka Cassius Clay). We chose him because he was so much more than just a boxer… his fight had a deeper cause that was for the love and freedom of the People.  I think these words I found via the library.louisville.edu website below says it well:

MUHAMMAD ALI:  SOCIAL JUSTICE & CIVIL RIGHTS ICON
Muhammad Aliʻs advocacy for racial justice began with his awareness and experience of racism and white supremecy in Louisville, Kentucky. His dedication to his boxing career was accompanied by his profound conviction that he had a greater purpose. He consistently challenged white supremecy, racism, segregation, and U.S. hegemony. “In an age of Jim Crow laws and brutal lynchings, for a young Black man to stand up and proclaim his greatness, defy convention, refuse to be humble or to know his place, was an incomparable act of bravery and defiance.”

“When you saw me in the boxing ring fighting, it wasnʻt just so I could beat my opponent. My fighting had a purpose. I had to be successful in order to get people to listen to the things I had to say… I wanted to be a champion who was accessible to everyone. I hoped to inspire others to take control of their lives and to live with pride and self-determination.”    ~ Muhammad Ali
