Space
"Space" for Illustration Friday, week of February 21, 2014, with initial sketches and Illustrator milestones. I changed the orientation of the piece before adding detail to improve the compostiion.
Final piece.
Early thumbnails and sketches, I was working on the expressions of the birds. The monkey at the top was from an earlier concept that I abandoned.
Initial Illustrator "sketch" to block out the basic composition.
First round of color and added detail.
Next round of detail, right before I decided to change the composition. I thought this one felt too cramped and didn't really show the bird on the left's feelings toward the moon enough. I also thought the space helmet was looking a little too much like a halo, so I went for a slightly more realistic helmet design.
