Typeface Design - Vaman Devanagari

This project marks the end of my 8 weeks internship with Hitesh Malaviya where I designed my first Devanagari typeface. Vaman Devanagari is a modular display typeface with prominent inktraps. These are minute wells made in the corners of letterforms where ink would otherwise clog up and make the printing appear too dark or often cause legibility issues on smaller point sizes. But here the inktraps have been prominently used as a design feature. Having said that, Vaman Devanagari works better on a big point size rather than on smaller point sizes.  Inktraps are commonly seen in Latin type design but not so popular in Indic scripts, being one of the core reasons to use them in the Devanagari script.
