NSA Government Agency Redesign

Using Armaan’s path flow, I ran user tests on the existing website. I asked them to follow Armaan’s path:

1. Look for cyber threat updates.
2. Find education resources.
3. Find general information on cybersecurity.

Our main findings were that the site had a lot of repetitive moments. There were several menu options with the same labeling, or when navigating to a new site, the information or labels found in the navigation bar were again presented as links on the page.

During our testing, we found that users were overwhelmed with the levels of navigation they had to go through, and found that the labels were confusing to the general public.

I created a feature prioritization matrix based on the data from the user tests. The major themes that emerged were privacy, wanting updates on cyber threats, better navigation and wording, and more graphics.

For the rebranding and redesign, I wanted to incorporate solutions to the pain points in the user persona and brighten up the site, create a clearer call to action, and develop a better navigation system using IA and LATCH Principles.

I also created a UI style guide to base the redesign on.

Currently, the NSA’s brand lacked approachability and is overly cluttered and generic.

Using the style guide, I created wireframes and then high-fidelity prototypes for mobile, tablet, and desktop.
I focused on asking my testers to complete three tasks:
1. Find out what the NSA is about
2. Find current cyber threats
3. Contact the NSA
With a mix of AB testing, recorded tests, and Maze, I got a lot of great feedback and data that I would then use to iterate on my prototypes.
Building out a new UI for mobile, tablet, and desktop in 1 week was incredibly challenging. I was really ambitious with wanting to get each interaction to work, and I had to take a step back and only focus on the paths I would use for testing. If I had more time, I would want to completely build out each interaction to make sure that they were all connected and working. I would also love to build out more pages. The NSA and cybersecurity are a big interest of mine, and so to really understand and get to know the website and the information offered on the NSA website would be really fun.
