So this is my Gig poster for the band you fear the reaper which is a band i made up! My original concept and my objective was to show the adventure in alt rock, as well as represent alt rock well, as a chaotic force that takes the road less traveled, and makes there own path forward.
These are the sketches that I ended up sketching for the whole design, the 2nd one was my original thought process which was more about the monster inside, but i decided against it because the concept art seemed to much like an album cover. So i moved onto my second idea which was the idea of drawing the train, what took the most idea was the amount of carts it would take overall. In the end I decided on one but I toyed with the idea with multiple. I felt like trains were very important in representing a journey, and showing that we aren't all there and that's what sometimes what makes it fun.
After that i worked on it the original idea was to work at it, and make a more 3d looking train from the back as it passed by someone, but that idea never really bore fruit. So I ended up to go to the drawing board, I really wanted to keep the train idea because of how important it was to my original idea and concept.
After working on it a bit, I was able to keep the idea of the train cart and everything but it still felt off. After thinking about it, although it had a few chaotic elements it still didnt feel as ridiculous and chaotic as it should so i added more elements to it.
At this point the wording was added I realized my original idea still needed a little more tweaks so after going to Cory Kerr he gave me some course corrections he gave me the idea to make the smoke more centered as well as make the words more dynamic, and also less busy. He also gave me the idea to remove the strokes from the grass.
After al that we reach the end I love this creation upon what Cory Kerr recommended i tweaked it a bit, and it gave me so many ideas, I up the different color saturation in the grass to make them stand apart, and took the strokes out of everything beyond the train tracks. This in my mind allowed me to show them traveling outside of reality, and leaving it behind. As you'll notice the only think that has any strokes beyond the grass are the people and the trains.
I aimed to show some people who could give you a good time, that would allow you to escape reality, forge your own path, and do your own thing no matter the consequences, and too me that what alt rocks about. The fire created is representative of the will untamed nature of alt rock, one day they can be doing soft songs, then another they can be doing hardcore vocals, in a funny way they're trail blazers.. Also the train going off the tracks is a deviation from the normal. Lastly the train not driving towards the sun or the moon is representative of them taking there own path as well, making everything seem as unconventional as possible. The person on the train is waving bye bye to civilization, and they both wear things that are very reminiscent of alt rock bands. Overall I think this achieves my objective because it shows the spirit of alt rock, and the journey that is in it.
