Pune's Heritage (Schematic Map)

A map designed for people wishing to explore Pune's past and famous historical buildings/areas.

The first step was drawing  mental model of central Pune and tracing the roads from a free map online. Points of interest were plotted on this map to know which areas to focus on.
The next step was to simplify the roads and areas with straight lines at 45 or 90 degree angles to make the map more concise. The scale of the map changed according to the density of historical places in the area. Two distinct areas were marked out, green being the area with Maratha architecture and red being the area with primarily British architecture.
The places of interest were colour-coded to see their relative date of construction at a glance.
Finally, some change in typography, size and colour led to the final iteration of the map. A small paragraph was added, establishing the purpose of the map.
