The piece explores the thick skin we don each day to deflect the constant assault of the world around us. The scale-like segments are patinated black to mirror the tarnishing of one’s outer skin, while the edges show a brilliant naval bronze to reflect the beauty within. Each scale is sutured together with rubber cord and the clasp is permanently set so the wearer must cover himself or herself cathartically.
