Motion Design: Kinetic Typography
Audio extract from ‘The Great Dictator’ film starring Charlie Chapman 1940, final speech sequence.
PROCESS
Ink splatter technique
The ink splatters were created by using a non-digital means, combining an analogue approach with digital assets. Using the physical materials produced more organic and fluid shapes, which created contrast when layered against the clean digital typography.
Materials: Ink non-waterproof, watercolor paper.
Typography
The font used is Berlin Sans FB created by the German designer Lucian Bernhard in the late 1920's. The font has an inherently communist characteristic which suits the narrative of the speech, the angular letter forms communicate with maximum impact.
