NEXT WAVE | Pandemic kit for remote monitoring

NEXT WAVE is a pandemic kit to be provided to all citizens to better react to future pandemics. The kit includes a set of face masks, a hand sanitiser, a smart pulse oximeter, and a smart thermometer. A smartphone App connects citizens to the healthcare system helping them report their condition, governments to identify early hotspots and remotely monitor patients symptoms.

Project background. The world was caught unprepared by Covid19 pandemic. Early on, we have seen panic-buying episodes to prepare for a long lockdown, hand sanitisers and face masks nowhere to be found, people with light symptoms that should have stayed home, pouring into emergency rooms, turning them into primary hotspots.

The fear of getting the virus and the uncertainty of receiving timely medical help have created a level of unprecedented stress among citizens, which were left in isolation at their homes with loads of information from the media, but often unable to contact their local healthcare providers.

Hospitals and emergency rooms have been overwhelmed by a wave of seriously ill patients requiring assisted ventilation, that should have been treated much earlier. The lack of ventilators have forced doctors to make tough decisions about who should be treated and who should be left dying. How can we better prepare for the next wave?

Hardware - Software - Service integration

Pandemic tracking apps that require users to daily input their data are soon abandoned, as they require too much mental effort and people forget about them after the first few days of usage.

Next Wave, being an ecosystem of hardware, software and services offers a more integrated experience that automatically and instantly transfer data from your smart devices to your chosen healthcare provider.

Simplified User Interface to reduce data anxiety

The smart thermometer and smart pulse oximeter feature a simplified User Interface that communicate simple feedbacks through colours to reduce anxiety. Green when everything is ok, orange when close monitoring is required and red when the situation is serious and action needs to be taken. Detailed readings are available in the smartphone App and shared with the chosen healthcare provider.
