Ang Bao, also known as red packets are a Chinese tradition. It is filled with monetary gifts during holidays like the annual lunar new year or during special occasions like wedding, baby shower or graduation. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck and is meant to ward off evil spirits.
For the year of the Dog in 2018, we played on the word "旺"(wang) which has a similar sound to the sound the dog makes in Mandarin "汪" (wang), thus we picked the phrase "福满财旺" as the theme of the set. It means abundant good fortune and prosperous wealth. With the idea to showcase modern Orientalism, we had lines weave in and out of the 2 main words "旺" and "福" in a fabric like manner such that those words appear.
