This was a self portrait I needed to create for my art history class. I chose to represent The Pieta as a testament to not only my religious upbringing, but also my relationship with my mother. I replaced Jesus Christ with myself to reinforce the scene of Jesus' body being held by his mother after his cruxifixction. A requirement was to add a technique that we had previously studied and I coincidentally had some impressionist digital brush sets that I used for the background texture. Lastly I used purple to incorporate the use of it as royalty and how Pontius Pilate had used the color to mock "the king of the jews".
