Project Description
In January 2016, the first Twin Cities Melbourne hostel was opened.
The facility is located in the center of St. Petersburg, in the Tsarskaya Stolitsa residential complex, not far from the Moscow railway station.
The clients were young investors.
They suggested that the idea of the twin cities of St. Petersburg, in this case Melbourne, be taken as the basis of the concept, which determines the corporate identity and most of the visual solutions.
Our studio was faced with the task of creating the interior design of a youth hostel of a European level with a warm cozy atmosphere,
homely hospitality and modern interiors in the spirit of the second largest Australian city.
We got a room with a free layout, which allowed us to create the necessary number of rooms in the right proportions, according to the standards. And the windows-windows allowed to demonstrate the bright interior from the street and connect it with the urban environment.
The main material selected is coniferous plywood coated with wear-resistant varnish, in support of the exposed concrete of the walls and ceiling, which we decided to keep. The door frames are also made of plywood, and the filling of canvases from cellular polycarbonate, which significantly simplified their design.
Since the hostel is located on the ground floor of a residential building
, the room required additional soundproofing of the public area, for which we chose Mapesil material, which is usually used in recording studios.
90% of the filling of the interior - the author's solutions, made in conjunction with the workshop of Timofei Zhuravlev.
Several lighting scenarios allow you to identify the texture of natural materials and create the right mood.
Navigation on the hostel premises is located on the floor in the corridor areas and duplicated on the walls. For the application of which we used screen printing and high-quality wear-resistant paint for floor coverings.
