The traditional Madhubani style of painting emerges from the Mithila region in India which were painted using natural colours on mud walls. The paintings were made by women which usually depicted religious practices, mythology or scenes from everyday life.

I have tried to experiment with this folk art to create illustrations of modern women, breaking stereotypes. I have  used the contrast of traditional styles with modern elements to question the 'WHY NOT?' leaving it open to interpretation by the viewer.
