Brief
Come up with a name and visual identity for an exhibition about biomimicry on the National History Museum of Denmark. You must deliver a logo, a poster, a flash banner and a looping spot.

Target group
The target audience for the exhibition is children from age 7-15.

Name
I chose the name Bionic for several reasons, most importantly because it is a synonym with biomimicry. It is mutch more catchy and simple, and the target audience already have a positive association because of Lego Bionicles.

Logo
I wanted to illustrate some of the very beautiful shapes we find in nature, and I fell in love with the voronoi-patterns in the wings of certain butterflies.

I wrote a processing applet to generate a voronoi pattern from particles organising themselves in a optimal pattern.

Along the way I was not satisfied with the voronoi look for my identity, so I experimented and ended up exporting the pattern to Illustrator, where I applied transparent circles on each particle. I was very happy with the look and chose that as a base for the entire look and feel of the project.
the process in 3 steps.
The final Logo
For the logotype I made the processing applet fill outlined letters with particles. I thought this illustrated the “hivemind” idea about insects.

Dynamic identity
I thought the logotype and outline of the butterfly is very recognisable, so I decided to make a dynamic identity. A couple of examples are shown in this picture.

The dynamic nature of the identity would also make it possible to give every child who visits the exhibition a unique butterfly, based on input from themselves.
Different randomly generated wing patterns.
Spot
The spot tells different fun facts about biomimicry. It is supposed to be shown on screens to the people in line at the museum.
