The Days of 2019
Each year, I create a piece of art to tell a story of what my life was like throughout the year and further grow my audience on social media. For 2019, I wanted to use a new medium and create something more animated to show the passage of time. I decided to experiment with markers and illustrate what I did every day that year to create a time-lapse animation.
I created an outline of myself in the center of the page to serve as a master copy to trace over for each drawing. It traveled thousands of miles with me throughout the year and sustained more wear and tear than any of my other drawings.
Keeping myself in the center of the frame for each drawing proved to be an interesting constraint. I ensured each drawing still felt balanced by providing more detail in the background where there weren't colored figures present.
On some days, I was able to experiment with contrasting values by shading the background with a solid color.
