BLUE TECH KIT

The Blue Tech Kit is a collection of resources surrounding Persuasive Technology and its imprint in today’s society. Included in the kit is helpful terminology, engaging graphics and a collection of vital text defining Persuasive Technology and the benefits and threats it can pose to professional communicators. The project is designed under the 19/20 Public Programme titled ‘My Algorithmic Life’ at London College of Communication, University of the Arts London based on the brief given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

The aim of this publication is to briefly introduce our audience to the concept of persuasive technology used in professional environments. It is to make them aware of the various algorithmic processes and tools used in the form of persuasive technology in their workplace and to inform them of its existence to ensure awareness.

In addition to the informative sections which is in the form of the booklet, an element of playful interaction in the form of cards adds value to the learning process. By splitting the information into three categories and their respective formats, we aim to engage our audience in the best way possible. The information is equally balanced in all the three formats.

We expect our users to interact with this kit in the order it lays in the package, for a cohesive and well-ordered learning experience. Each element allows for a different interaction with information: a graphics poster ready-made for office and classroom walls, terminology cards for eidetic memory exercises and a booklet allowing the reader to pick and choose chapters of interest for specific topic learning.

1. Box
The box is made using one whole sheet of Cool Blue 350gsm. The identity and instructions are screen printed. The box closes itself with the help of magnetic strips attached to the extended flap which goes under the box.

2. Poster
The poster serves as an index page to the entire kit. The information is presented in the form of infographics designed using simple typography. The backside of the poster makes use to display the answers to the terminology section. The poster is printed on Blue Plike 140gsm by G.F. Smith.

3. Cards
There are two decks of cards for Terms and Definitions each. The user is expected to interact with the content by matching the correct set of terms to its respective definitions. The cards are divided into three categories of terms with respect to their context - Persuasion, Technology and Algorithms. These three categories are colour coded to add visual resonance and value.

4. Booklet
The booklet is an informative manual which introduces the reader to the concept of persuasive technology and algorithms. The book is bound using the technique of Single Saddle Stiching. The book cover is also screen printed on Blue Plike 140gsm by G.F. Smith.
