The Approach

Financial apps are seemingly at a disadvantage because of regulatory and legal requirements. Until recently, this has led to poorly designed, bland, and sometimes incoherent apps, features, and processes. This is where the new-age fintech products have an opportunity to score. By identifying their users and tailoring the experience towards a niche. Choosing a strong color scheme helped lay the foundation for the use of images for visualizing various investment strategies The onboarding wizard provides a clear message: This app is a simple, fun fintech app to help you achieve your financial goals and budgeting. From the get-go, it was important to set a playful tone—colorful sign-up screens convey a distinct personality and small transition animations help increase engagement.
The Problem

One of the obstacles to unravel the mystery of your finances would be the fragmented nature of your finances. Today most people don't manage their money well. They end up getting out of control and come to the end of the month full of debt. In our daily lives we have to do excel karate every month to figure out our financial ins and outs. A killer butler services was required for personal banking and setting future financial goals. Budgeting and Spending is the main issue people face as they are unknown of their spending, the question stands out , how can we make people life easier and make sure they know where their money is going, make budgeting simple and easy and make sure they stay on top of all their finances.
The Ask

I was asked to design a Mobile App for a Fintech Startup, that takes care of personal expenses on daily basis and helps suggest better ideas for money management. Saving the user for logging in to various internet banking platforms to retrieve statements and consolidating them manually. The following case study provides a little insight in how I would potentially approach User Experience design & User Interface design for a project.
The Solution

The Solution proposed allows you to aggregate your banks, credit card and daily expenses. Then it breaks down the expenses category for you in charts so you will know where your money went to. The best part is that the App provide insights to your spending patterns. Once you know where you are spending your money, it makes it possible for you to cut your spending without affecting your quality of life. I’ve worked on a solution where users have the ability to keep their finances at their fingertips Know where their money is going, by linking all of their  bank accounts at one place, I grouped the finances in to categories showing where they spend ( e.g transport, shopping etc ) Even they can set their goals and spending’s for future. Users set an investment goal—an amount they want to accrue over a selected period of time. From there, the app suggests various options (using historical data and machine learning) and users can invest towards that goal with monthly deposits.

Personas

User personas were very important because they allows me to put on a mask and become the person I’m designing for. Finance touches all of our lives, everyone of any age has to go through it so I picked a person in his 30s , a middle-aged person, and a senior citizen. Following our customer interviews, we (me & my client ) synthesized our findings and were able to create a customer journey and persona which were presented and discussed with the client.

Low Fidelity Wireframes / Rough Sketches

I tried to focus on features related to solving some of the major desired outcomes found in user research conduct by my client and myself, Unfortunately I have to keep it confidential as per the contract terms. Now it’s time to convert all of our insights into information architecture and create wireframes. Prototypes will help us to test usability and get early feedback. After corrections and client approval I was ready to design a user interface. Keeping in mind that the app we are going to design should be simple and easy to understand. Also, encouraging to build financial habits.
Investing in the visuals

I emphasis on vibrant hue to the primary color palette, as well as reducing the amount of overall colors, to reduce distractions. I also intentionally used a lot of white space to focus on the relevant call to actions, and attention points. I additionally emphasized the colour blue, this in addition to using white evokes feelings of reliability, security and also professionalism. I also added familiar elements inspired from other major Fintech and banking apps, which would further add to creating a trusting experience. Lastly I’ve added bespoke iconography and illustrations, which added to an approachable feel to the app, as well as a unique and professional experience to the interface, which I later learnt helped user retention.
On-Boarding the App

The onboarding wizard provides a clear message: This app is a simple, fun fintech app to help you achieve your financial goals and budgeting and yeah it’s not boring as finance :)
