Resurrecting Vintage Topographical Maps

Topographical maps played a crucial role in gaining an accurate vision of the western United States during the 19th century. Cartographers and explorers representing the U.S. Geological Survey were dispatched to every mountain, canyon, desert, forest, plain, river, lake, and valley as Americans began to expand west. This ongoing series seeks to resurrect some of those old topographical maps by retracing each contour and adding vibrant color combinations.
