Background: NI Husky Haven is an animal shelter based in Belfast, Co.Antrim. The shelter specialises in the rescuing, rehabilitation and rehoming from pounds/other shelters/lost & found of Huskies, Malamutes & Snow Breeds in Northern Ireland/Ireland.
Brief: My mission was to create a brand that would appeal to a younger generation, the owner wanted to encourage more people to join the rescue shelter and take an interest in animal welfare. The logo had to be relevant to the type of brands worn by today's teenagers, who are fashion conscious and wouldn't be embarrassed to wear the NI Husky Haven merchandise when out and about away from the shelter,additionally this would help to advertise the animal sanctuary.
Solution: I decided to follow an athletics styled logo, if there are brands that appeal to a younger audience it would that of a sports brand such as Nike, Adidas and Puma. Most teenagers like to wear recognisable sports brands that are well-designed and eye-catching, as everything to a younger generation is about perception, uniqueness, the self-styled image of being one of a kind. Additionally, the choice of a sports styled logo was to encourage the public to investigate further only to realise it's an animal shelter and hopefully, this would spark their interest in animal welfare and volunteering to help the NI Husky Haven shelter in its mission to protect the husky dog.
