Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom)

Usually when travelling and working for other people you rarely get an oppurtunity to see the sights let alone be let loose with enough time to eat a full cake.  I was lucky on a trip with Landmarq around Europe that we got to stop off at Cologne. Instead of eating a full cake, I took out my camera and decided to shoot some of the cathedral..
The walk to the top of the tower was quite stunning. Stopping at the bell tower on the way then travelling upwards, it was hard not to loose breath.  On top of this, the spiral stairway was just about wide enough to fit two people which meant stopping and squeezing past everytime someone came the opposite way. (which happened quite often) A little disapointing then that when finally at the top to enjoy the swelling view of Cologne city you are met with an abundance of chicken wire and rails. Not the photographic oppurtunity I had hoped for!  Trying to capture a good shot of the city scape was akin to finding a spot here without any graffiti. It was literally plastered in it.  So I decided to capture the moments instead concentrating more of the memories of those that had been and left their mark (where are they now?) and the people there with me idly ignoring my presence and contemplating over the city.
Inside the Cathedral itself was quite stunning.  A strange atmosphere filled with chatering people against the contrast of priests and people praying, the massive tourist impact made me feel slightly uneasy. However, it didnt stop me joining in and capturing some pictures of my own.
