The Disney Juniors channel is a favourite across the globe, so when they asked mgfxstudio to recreate and update their Birthday Book spot we were more than happy to oblige. Basing our animations on a previous version, the guys at Disney wanted to be able to adapt and modify key sections of the 60’ spot to both keep it fresh and updateable as well as allow other key channel brands the option update and use the spot themselves. With a significant amount of animation, a tight turnaround AND the need for end user flexibility this was going to be a tough ask.
“I was always concerned about time” Brad Le Riche, Senior Designer at mgfxstudio states, “It was a lot of Animation, with the added variable of needing a usable, flexible AE project as a deliverable at the end of it. Fortunately having worked on a few projects now that require C4D/AE integration: Disney XD, Lemurs, etc, I knew it could be done, I just needed to keep the projects as simple as possible and make sure I named everything correctly!”
From the start Cinema 4D was the obvious software to use, if only for it’s AE integration. Once the animated scene had been created, C4D could pump out a scene file which would bring cameras and nulls into AE allowing replacement Photos and Names as well as interchangeable characters to be adjusted in a far simpler way than trying to edit the 3D build.
After an intense few weeks of animation, renders and unpicking scene files the final product was delivered. Now we just have to watch hours of Disney Juniors to see how it looks in situ!!
