Industrial Design Dept. Rebrand

The Industrial Design rebrand project was a class-wide collaboration completed in my Advanced Studio in Spring of 2019. “ArtTwerk” is an unapologetically interdisciplinary course taught by Jess Brown and developed to bring together art and design while addressing social justice issues. She also successfully brought together our class, by encouraging us to constantly work together through celebrating and utilization of each individual’s strengths to work towards a common goal. One of the last projects we took on together was a complete rebranding of the department – as we all had noticed inconsistencies in our own expectations of ID before entering the program. We decided our beloved department needed a fresh start, a new message, a unifying brand. So we got to work – and in the end we created an ID logo, style guide, hand guide for prospective students, website mockups, and we pitched the renovation of current spaces using the new color palettes and typography.
I was one of three students in our class that decided to focus on logo design. I had to consider our previous branding, our current message, and somehow tie that into the design. I immediately knew the logo had to involve isometric cubes – the very building blocks of every ID Sophomore's experience. Eventually my designs were chosen and tweaked according to what the entire class thought was best. Below the first concepts can be seen:
The final Industrial Design logo was created in Illustrator, along with the following style guide. Our whole class feels as though this design truly embodies our student experience in the ID Department. In the style guide, I created the first landing page (pictured directly below), the primary, secondary, and sketch logos, and the website mockup.
