I think a lot about the word 'homepage' and what this should look like for my site.
Modern personal websites, like portfolios, tend to lean a lot towards minimalism, structure and clarity. Or websites can also look very Brutalist. These are the styles that develop from how we collectively experience the Internet, and how we access information now. For my personal site, I wanted to leave out these expectations and create a space that explores storytelling on a Web Page.
The site explores storytelling on a webpage using illustrations of personal spaces–bedroom studios in particular–to express a personal identity, and to provide a context for the body of work.
1. Studio & Shop - The collage starts with a studio setting, which links to separate pages for commissioned work and items for sale, the part of my design work that I do for a living.
2. Projects - I take my inspiration from junk shops, the world of Neopets, blog sites of the early 2000s, The Sims, and Joseph Cornell's assemblage artworks. A common idea that I draw from these influences was that they are very intimate and rich worlds, which is an idea that is not always associated with modern web sites. But this sense of richness was what I wanted to convey with the virtual space, and it was a way for me to draw a connection between my projects.
3. A Hoarder's Diary - A blog section. How I spend my free time... mostly under my bed and staying horizontal on my rug.
4. Profile - Yes, it is quite difficult sometimes to write about myself.
5. Footer - The kind of thing you will see on an end table or cabinet in a junk store, as you leave this junk store/studio space of a website.
5. archive.rip - This section is a homage to my past influences.
