This project is a visual exploration of the poem Needles And Pins by Shel Silverstein. The poem is about how if you want something in life, you need to work for it and that it takes time and effort in order to achieve success. In the stanza, "Captain and crew, Captain and crew, Take me, oh take me To anywhere new.", Silverstein is suggesting that there is nothing wrong with asking for help from others.

In this light, I have used needles attached to red and blue thread against a white background to draw a parallel from the poem to the metaphor of how the country of America was founded upon the hard work of individuals. From breaking off from the British colony, to the founding fathers writing the Declaration of Independence, the needles and thread, along with the choice of colors represents the hands of you and I that came together to weave together the fabric of America. Various sizes of needles were used to represent the diversity that is seen in today's America. All of the elements in the poster work together to create a cohesive composition that emphasizes not only the country of America, but the idea of it.
