beats hand-mixer

The goal of this assignment is to redesign a hand-mixer to fit the needs of a specific group and align with the product line of a chosen company.
This hand-mixer is designed for children from the ages of 6-12 who are learning how to bake. Beats was chosen as the brand for this product because it is a well known brand that reaches a large demographic of both children and adults.

The redesign of the hand-mixer will be based on these five needs:

1. A firm grip and ergonomic handle to allow for an easy and secure hold for children

2. A smaller size that is more suitable for the children hands

3. Simple and convenient storage for the beaters

4. A cleaning solution for messy bakers

5. The removal of the cord for a safe baking experience
Thumbnail sketches and ideations of the hand-mixer
Two of the thumbnails were chosen, followed by a redesign of three iterations of the original two designs
Following a voting system by peers as well as handle tests, the above design was chosen. This design has a brilliant handle design which allows for two different holds. Children are able to place their hand in-between the handle and the body of the mixer to allow for a secure hold. Adults are able to hold the handle alone, which allows for the use of the mixer by both children and adults. Secondly, the bottom of the mixer is designed to come off to allow for a simple cleaning process. The hand mixer is made cordless which enables a safer baking experience. To achieve this, the hand mixer comes with a charging base that triples as a bluetooth speaker and a storage base. The speaker allows for a fun baking experience.
Above this the operational sequence demonstrating how to insert the beaters, turn the hand-mixer on, increase and decrease the speed of the beaters, and eject the beaters after use. Below is the orthographic drawing of the hand-mixer.
The final model for the hand-mixer was made out of bass wood. It was made from three individual pieces which were glued together and then shaped into the form. After this, the model was primed and spray painted.
Above is the packaging process, including logo ideation and the final packaging outline
