Avoid Stress, Gain Better Endurance With Ironman Triathlon Training


Ironman triathlon training aims to increase the endurance till the ultimate level of efficiency is reached. However, athletes often get exhausted or suffer from imbalance in energy levels while training for the whole session of the triathlon. Therefore, to keep track of their energy levels, they need to have something more than just anaerobic triathlon tests to determine the endurance level during increased workouts. According to a review by Canadian sports scientists, a new paradigm "the ultrasound threshold "is needed in ironman triathlon to replace the anaerobic thresholds. The ultrasound threshold is also required to measure the variables like the performance intensity and the finish times in the case of ironman triathlon training.
During the ironman triathlon training the athletes often get affected by peculiar physiological stress, which have bad effect on the performance during the ironman triathlon training programs. It is however, easy to identify and minimize these stress for ensuring better performance.
1. High calories expenditure, which can range between 8,500 kcal to 11,500 kcal, is pretty common at the end of a particularly strenuous workout. This loss of energy should be minimized with immediate intake of carbohydrates. The carbohydrate taken should be in the liquid form for instant absorption into the bloodstream and immediate gain of energy.
2. Extreme fluid loss in the body in the form of sweat during the ironman triathlon training can be up to 2 liters/hour. This can create electrolyte imbalance in the body. Dehydration has been the main reason for athlete suffering from hyponatraemia (sodium imbalance) during the training session. Therefore immediate intake of essential fluids is of prime necessity for the athletes to keep fit during ironman training.
3. Cardiovascular drift often occurs during the ironman triathlon training. Even if a steady heart rate is measured during the practice season, during the extra workouts, there can be a cardiovascular drift. Increased heart rate further increases dehydration and reduces the blood glucose level. This needs to be replenished at regular intervals.
4. During the ironman triathlon training, series of exercises can cause loss of intensity gradually till the last part of the training is reached. A preceding event of high intensity may cause a decrease in performance for the succeeding events.
The precautionary measure to avoid excessive loss of energy and to maintain a balanced utilization of metabolic fuels, it is required to maintain the intensity of the exercises below the anaerobic threshold. This conserves energy and saves the person from over-exhaustion.
