Four Oakland Athletics Players Earn Defensive Distinction
In his role as assistant principal at Rocklin Unified School District Victory Alternative School, Chuck Thibideau leverages more than three decades of experience to create and implement district policies and oversee hiring, training, and evaluation activities. An avid baseball fan, Chuck Thibideau counts the Oakland Athletics as his favorite Major League Baseball (MLB) team.

Four Oakland A's players received distinction for their defensive capabilities on October 24 as Rawlings announced the nominees for the American and National League Gold Glove Awards. Matt Olson and Matt Chapman, who won the award for their respective positions last season, were both nominated, as were shortstop Marcus Semien and left fielder Robbie Grossman. Semien was a finalist at shortstop last season, while Grossman is a first-time nominee.

Olson is regarded as the best fielding first baseman in the MLB. This past season, he led all other first basemen in metrics such as defensive runs saved (DRS), fielding runs above average, and ultimate zone rating (UZR). Similarly, Chapman led all third basemen in UZR and DRS.

A's players have accounted for 23 Gold Glove Awards since Joe Rudi won the organization's first in 1974. Others who have won the award with Oakland include Rickey Henderson, Dwayne Murphy, and Eric Chavez.
