October 2019 Ink Highlights

Seen here are some of my ink pieces done for the challenge called Inktober following the prompts created for October 2019. Started in 2009 by the artist Jake Parker, creatives from all over participate in a challenge where they create a piece of work in ink (traditional or digital) every day during the month of October. They can do one or more but what's really important is that they create a piece a day in ink! Mr. Parker originally created this art challenge as a way to help improve his own artwork and take it to another level. To view all of my work done for this challenge and a glimpse of the thought process that went into each, check out my Facebook blog page where I post daily sketches and sometimes articles and the folder they have all been gathered in by clicking the link: https://www.facebook.com/pg/bartolanzo/photos/?tab=album&album_id=2244379812333151
Prompt 2: Mindless
Zombie! And let him tell you a tale about how he got that good looking brain!
Prompt 4: Freeze

Another word with many uses and meanings. For this I decided to do an iceberg. Of course a bit of daydreaming came my way so this iceberg must have a secret ice city below of the merpeople living in icy waters! A quick sketch that has two sides to it!
Prompt 9: Swing

Nothing too original but also didn't want to draw an actual swing you go on at the park although thinking more about it now, could have gotten more interesting. Anyway, wanted to draw a softball player since I usually don't get to draw that subject matter much! Trying new things!
Prompt 12: Dragon

European dragons, Chinese dragons, and Japanese dragons popped into mind. They were followed by Harry Potter and an idea of maybe drawing Norbert (or a baby dragon in general) hatching in a fireplace that would be awesome to do! Even Charizard from Pokemon came to the fore but he's technically a fire-type in the game that looks like a dragon and not an actual dragon-type (my old child senses wouldn't let me get away with using him as a dragon). I had also watched Godzilla again the night before with King Ghidorah, a three-headed dragon monster, but since I already did fanart of him a month or two ago and Godzilla for the Prompt Build, wanted to do something different. But then my thoughts turned to Lord of the Rings and Smaug from the Hobbit! Now that was an interesting idea except instead of drawing him in full, why not that terrifying moment where he sees Bilbo and the hobbit is reflected in his eye with the Arkenstone in hand?! Pushed myself in this because not usually good with scales and haven't tried to draw a reflection in an eye before.
Prompt 14: Overgrown

Another tricky one for me. Of course my mind wandered over to plants taking over a city or a building but that just seemed a little over done. Looking over the definition there was a negative side to it but wasn't entirely sure how to illustrate that. And then "Little Shop of Horrors" came to mind (never actually saw the movie/musical but know of the story). But instead of something horrorific, I wanted something a little funny, tame, and like "Honey I Shrunk the Kids." And so a little girl's tulip is basically the size of a shed.
Prompt 15: Legend

A word usually carried with weight, bringing to mind of heroes and warriors. But besides trying to illustrate an epic battle in an hour I decided to look elsewhere for my legend. So basically monster legends came to mind and definitely the Loch Ness was one of the first that came to mind. But then bigfoot is an American legend and so why not? Cue "Missing Link" and "Hotel Transylvania 3." It was the end of the summer and even bigfoot wants to get a few more highlights in before winter!
Prompt 17: Ornament

This one stumped me a little because I automatically thought of a Christmas decoration. Well, I looked up the definition for better clarity and came up with small items to decorate around the household, basically knickknacks. So I was like why not a ballerina music box and on further thought, why not a ballerina in a snow globe! Well, long story short, I somehow I got a sleeping dragon with their hoard with falling coins in the globe instead... I'm not disappointed.
Prompt 18: Misfit

Immediately I get negative vibes off this word (it's used in so many negative situations!) and thought of the Island of Misfit Toys from Rankin Bass's "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" movie. Looking up the definition to see if there's more to it than someone who doesn't fit in, I did see it also meant something not sized right or an object that didn't fit in with a group. While not what I wanted, it did give me ideas. And in the end, a dog poses with bunnies in yard holding a carrot. The rabbits don't seem to mind.

Prompt 29: Injured

Yesterday I explained I was going to do a mummy but looking over it again, I wasn't quite satisfied with a sassy mummy. So with a little more thought, I came up with a mummified queen looking over with defiance but sadness at what's become of her tomb/home. I kept the cat because I thought it added something. So, I guess I illustrated injured pride?
Prompt 30: Catch

I thought of a baseball falling from the sky to a player's glove but since I already did a similar subject for Swing, I decided to go a different way, fishing! I was going to do a fisherman catching a big one and then I saw eagles and bears fishing and was like, haven't drawn a bear for while.
