A New Way to Watch
for WGBH

Overview
In addition to creating a more joyful experience to browse, read, watch and listen, WGBH was looking for a continuous listening experience as well as a way to present locked and unlocked content.

Audience
Loyal WGBH patrons, those that donate to the community, PBS viewers and a new audience who know WGBH but may not know all it has to offer.

My role
Lead UX designer, worked on a full week discovery phase along with the design discovery team at Thoughtbot.  Worked on IA, UI, wireframes and served as design consultant/liaison alongside the in house design team to align with the CMS building blocks of Brightspot.

The process
• Discovery research and prototype design
• Navigation and IA, site structure explorations
• Mobile explorations
• Lead workshops regarding design for Brightspot
• Wireframes of key templates (desktop and mobile)
• Created design system & component library
• Visual QA

Outcomes & lessons
The timeline and scope extended due to internal reviews and while branding and style guides were finalized. Discoverability increased, telling a better story to the audience. A more authentic news experience, as well as easy to find show & podcast content. Continuous radio and podcast listening was built throughout the experience, as well as a new video and authentication experience.
