Why that book?
Why is there no book about Cairo for children? I asked myself several times when I was standing confused in the bookstores. I searched around went through the shelves and left mostly very disappointing. I had enough of books about hieroglyphs and dead Pharaohs. I knew it was time that Egyptian children learn more about the culture and the city they are living in. So I decided to make a book by myself. A book that I would like to see in Egyptian bookshelves. A book that I would love to read to my children and to my children's friends. I wanted to create a simple and joyful book that is engaging and fun. I had a clear vision in my mind and I wanted it to be transformed into reality.
In Ahmed Hossam I found a very talented young Egyptian illustrator who understood my idea on the spot. His style of drawing was perfect for representing my ideas. I hope this book will bring a lot of happiness to Egyptian houses. I wish it will make you smile and laugh with your children. We need to read more ! Please switch off the screens for your children.

Kristin Jankowski, born 1981 in Hamburg, Germany, lives with her family in Cairo. She worked as a Video-Journalist, Writer and Editor for different media outlets. Kristin Jankowski is a mother of two daughters. She likes Martial Arts and Music. "My little Cairo ABC" is her first children's book.
Ahmed Hossam is a freelance comic book artist, illustrator, graphic designer and writer who’s taken art, in its many different forms, as a means of expression and existence throughout his life. Based in Cairo, Egypt, Ahmed tells the stories of the everyday people he meets and have no chance of getting their voices heard by the “top” others. Having the Egyptian street as his main source of inspiration, Ahmed seems to have taken his art to a whole different level that comprises the Egyptian identity and reality.
