Fire festival (Bugum) is celebrated by many ethnic groups in the northern region. Offerings and sacrifices are made on the day of the festival to their ancestors for the beginning of new Era. The festival is celebrated in the night with bundle of grasses light on fire.
The chief of every community lights the first bundle of grass take it round his head seven times while given praise to his ancestor seeking for good health for his subjects and prosperity during the coming year.
He throws away the bundle of grass after the prayers and his subjects now light their bundle of grass and a procession begins with drumming singing and dancing to the outskirt of each community. The procession usually moves to a big tree in each community surround it and throw the fire at the tree and dance back to the chief palace.
The atmosphere during the festival highly war or riot like and could sometimes be unsafe for participant.
