These studies were undertaken to understand human anatomy on a deeper level - one of my main areas of interest is character design and modelling, and understanding muscle groups and deformation has been invaluable for getting into practicing good topology for modelling.
Some quick life drawing and motion studies was a nice warm up to start off this anatomy study, for general proportion, range of motion, structure and so on.
Next, shaded and more detailed drawings were useful for getting a handle  on muscular structures as seen from the outside.
Then, I was ready to move onto the more detailed studies. They were guided by classical écorché studies, drawn over the top of other life drawings, to highlight the muscles groups. I focused not on exact anatomical accuracy, but on the muscles that are important for defining the shape of the body, and would thus be useful to understand for edge flow.
And to finish this study off, I looked more at the complicated facial muscles, and specifically, how they help the face deform.
