When asked to contemplate the relationship of art and design, the definition of the word ‘and’ became the focus for this project. And is: used to connect, in combination; collectively, companionship or close association, without interruption; continuously. The word continuously struck a chord in regards to a conversation or debate about art and design that will never end. In response to that idea, a design emerged that utilizes the words art and design in a continuous circle. Inspiration also came from an artist who repurposes old paintings to make new ones. Thus, repurposed album covers became the foundation on which the conversation begins. Ultimately, two projects were created that use two languages to create a dialog between each other and the viewer; one featuring the design laser cut out of the album covers and the other screen printed on top of the album covers.
