Buggy Redesign 2019

10 years on from my Alias model and renders of a Buggy concept, I decided to revisit it. I could have Modelled and rendered a new version of the buggy, but I spend most of my day at work on some sort of CAD program, staring at a screen so decided to hand draw the redesign instead.

This front 3/4 view shows how little I've actually changed redesigning the buggy. Perhaps I should have been more adventurous! This view does show the closed cabin a little more though, and the front bumper / diffuser area from the sketch.
This upper rear quarter is my favourite view because you can see the splitlines which I spent quite a lot of time playing with. You can also see why the big exhausts are gone; the V8 has been replaced and sits under a clear lid now. It looks kind of like a transverse four cylinder, but it could also be something more experimental. You could say replacing the v8 is sacrelige, but I'll bet this weight distribution delivers better handling potential given the lack of weight up front. There's a hint of an 80s inspired green back-lit IP in there too. The engineer in me decided to integrate an air intake into the engine over, as well as slots in the lowest point of the spoiler to evacuate any built up water.
This rear 3/4 shows that the big lairy exhausts are gone, but I've also closed up the cabin and added door splitlines. The rear fenders are now integrated, and I've made subtle changes to the height and shape of the roofline to suit. A lightened panel diffuser adds some more detail under the body at the rear, and I've also changed up the wheels for a sort of modern take on Torq Thrusts, though still in a white shade like the concept from ten years back.
Some quick sketches which started this project...
