Architectural Appreciation

Five of these photos were originally submitted for the photo assignment titled 'Beauty.' This photo is one that caught me the most off guard. For this assignment, I took over 400 photos. I took many without bothering to stop and go through them. I find that I take good photos when I simply take them without overthinking it. This is one I found when I finally arrived home after a three hour excursion through downtown Goshen. The moment I saw this I was speechless. It was too beautiful and I hadn't even realised what I had captured when I took it. Here lies an abandoned building, boarded up windows and construction all around it, and yet a special soul took the time to draw a simple master piece. That to me, is beauty.
This is actually the back of a store in downtown Goshen in an alley way. If you don't walk down the alleys or leave through the back entrance, you miss this beauty. I loved the tea truck being parked conveniently there, adding a touch of colour and emphasis to a rather still life photo.
This was another accidental photo. I went to the second floor of a boutique to try and get shots of the buildings across the street and found this gem of a beautifully abandoned room instead. Always be curious and don't be afraid to ask questions or permission to shoot in odd places. You never know what you could have got if you don't!
I never really thought of my home as super photo worthy. But my mom has currently been going super "Fixer Upper" on our house and it looks better than ever! This was a peer favourite from the first assignment. I am fond of it as well. I love the texture of the rock and the lines of the ceiling of the porch. But I love how the turquoise table and pink flowers really pop and compliment the more subtle grey tones. I love studying architecture and the use of colour in it.
I didn't notice the 'Do not walk on the wall' sign for a while before I got shots standing on top. This was one of the last shots I took. I love the architecture of both the wall and the house. It makes me feel like I am in a different time period and the dating of it is obvious. However, it has been kept up so well, both the house and the wall were in remarkably good shape. I love the framing of the trees and wall to the house. It makes it feel just as classy as it was back in the day.
I happened to be oddly in the middle of the road taking photos before I realised this truck was turning. They were kind enough to let me get my shots before driving on. The colours of the buildings are made even sharper and brighter when put against the plain colours of the vehicles as well as the half in the sun/half in the shade photo. I barely had to edit this photo and I love it when I take a photo that doesn't require much editing.

Architectural Appreciation

Architectural Appreciation seems to be somewhat of a general title. Some may not think much of it, but to me it's much more than just a building, Read More
